While the Aero isn’t perfect, as is any popular laptop, the trade-offs appear minor in light of all it offers. Microsoft appears to have devoted significant resources to re-engineering the Surface Pro 8’s internals since the company has configured the CPU with a higher TDP than previous generations of the tablet, increasing it to 23W from 15W in the Surface Pro 7 (Guyton, 2022). The latter’s battery only lasted 3 hours and 12 minutes on the PCMark 8 test, which was one of its major flaws. While we’ve subsequently moved on to PCMark 10, the Surface Pro 8 easily outperforms that score with its 8 hours and 15 minutes of battery life.
