This ranking of the best business and management scientists allows us all to learn from the field's leading experts while also discovering which research institutions, universities, and countries have managed to maintain a strong research tradition for the advancement of business and management practices.
For the 2024 edition of the greatest business and management researchers, we looked at nearly 2,000 profiles derived from several bibliometric databases. Using a variety of indicators and criteria, we verified and inspected each scientist's qualifications to guarantee that every entry was worthy of ranking.
To be included in the ranking, a scholar's D-index (Discipline H-index) was set at 30. Aside from the D-index, one of the main factors considered was the proportion of contributions made within the discipline, which indicates that the majority of their publications should be in the subject of business and management, including awards and distinctions.
Emerging themes in business and management research
In 2023, the scholarly research landscape in business and management witnessed a significant shift towards topics such as digital transformation, sustainability, employee engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). This trend reflects the evolving priorities and challenges faced by businesses globally, particularly in the wake of rapid technological advancements and heightened social awareness.
Digital transformation emerged as a focal point as organizations sought to leverage technology to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences, and stay competitive in a digital-first economy. Scholars delved into the intricacies of digital adoption, exploring strategies, challenges, and implications for various aspects of business management, from supply chain optimization to marketing strategies.
Moreover, sustainability, employee engagement, and DEI gained prominence as businesses recognized the imperative to operate ethically, responsibly, and inclusively. Research in these areas delved into strategies for integrating sustainability practices into business models, fostering a culture of engagement and empowerment among employees, and promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
Scholars examined the business case for sustainability initiatives, the impact of employee engagement on organizational performance, and the role of inclusive practices in fostering innovation and driving organizational success.
